Rural Outreach - Music Education

Rural primary schools usually comprise of a small number of teachers, with classes of multiple year groups, and consequently the Arts is an area often overlooked in the primary curriculum in favour of core subjects. This week-long immersive music course is aimed at rural schools, where music is often taught by non-specialists if at all.

This often results in missed opportunities for students. Studies have consistently shown that music education helps the development of students’ cognitive development including abstract thinking, aural and spatial awareness, verbal understanding; not to mention that it's the most fun subject at school!

The sessions are based on the National Curriculum framework, with clear learning objectives for the unit and age appropriate themes and activities throughout. There is a strong focus on kinaesthetic learning, development of musical understanding and performance skills.

In my carefully designed course, students will:

  • Explore musical sounds through a hands on approach with a range of quality instruments

  • Take part in individual, group and whole class music activities

  • Use their imagination and creativity to tell stories through music

  • Develop cognitive and motor skills

  • Boost self confidence

  • Learn about the musical elements

  • Have a lot of fun :)

The course is run as a 3, 4 or 5 day experience, with each class running for 45 minutes to an hour (based around the school timetable), with an ongoing theme continuing throughout the week.

The cost of this course is $1800 for 3 days, $2200 for 4 days and $2500 for the whole week. With school roll of 100 students this equates to $5 per day per student for the full 5 days.
